Minnesota makes win-now move for some depth

MIN gets- Courtney Lee, Kyle O’Quinn

NY gets- Gorgui Dieng, second round pick

New York had a fun start, but in reality they are a 38 win team. Better than expected, but not quite a playoff material. The Knicks need to shed some cap and continue to get young players to build around the unicorn. Moving Noah and Kanter will be near impossible, so moving Lee and O’Quinn is their best bet. I know its painful because both have played well this year. However, it’s a long-term trade; they would shed some cap, get an extra pick and get another solid rotation big in Dieng.

For Minnesota Lee is a perfect fit. They need another wing desperately, and Lee gives them defense and shooting. O’Quinn would be great off the bench as a big who can bring energy and can play either the four or the five.

Minnesota instantly gets better with this trade and New York becomes much more prepared for the future and will have more room to chase future free agents.
