Torn on Bol Bol

Bol Bol easily had one of the most impressive individual performances at the Hoophall Classic looking at the box score. He finished with over 30 points scoring them all very efficiently, and in a variety of ways. Bol showed off his touch, and a faceup post game that was a huge surprise.

Defensively Bol Bol showed value protecting the rim with five blocks for the Findlay Prep powerhouse. However, with all the potential seen from Bol there are plenty of questions.

He looks awkard out on the floor. Almost like he’s not comfortable with his own length yet. His hands weren’t really all there as he dropped a few passes. He didn’t do much rebounding for a player that’s almost 7 feet and 3 inches.

He shyed away from contact against much shorter defenders. His defensive instincts and pick and roll coverage was poor. Rarely protecting the weak side when an opposing player drove right by him for a dunk. Lastly, the last concern is, what is his role offensively? As far as the NBA, there’s no clue. He’s not agile enough to be a stretch four, and he’s still two to three years at least away from being able to handle a big man physicality. There’s a lot of potential in Bol Bol, but there’s also some red flags as well.
