NBA Trade Rumors: The Charlotte Hornets have reportedly made Kemba Walker available, as the NBA trade deadline draws near
The Charlotte Hornets, unfortunately, are on the fast track to nowhere. After missing the playoffs last season, and on track to miss them again this season, the Hornets needed to make some sort of change.
But because of the bad contracts that are limiting their flexibility, making subtle changes to the roster seemed like almost an impossible task.
Now, though, it appears that the Hornets are utilizing another avenue. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hornets have made Kemba Walker available and are hoping that they can clear some of their salary by essentially blowing the team up.

"[via ESPN]Overloaded with bad contracts and untradable assets, the Charlotte Hornetshave made All-Star point guard Kemba Walker available in trade discussions, league sources told ESPN.Charlotte has been encouraging teams to make offers and appear eager to discuss attaching Walker to a larger trade where another team takes on one of the Hornets’ several far less desirable contracts, sources said."
Placing Walker on the trade block is actually a game changer for the next couple of weeks. If the Hornets are serious about trading Walker, and they should be, it’s going to be interesting to see what types of teams get involved here.
There is a market for Walker, there’s no denying that. And he’s a difference maker, too. Walker is averaging 22 points, six assists and nearly four rebounds per game this season. Even though he’s not having the best season shooting-wise, there’s definitely a role for Walker on any team that is in need of a lead guard, or simply a guard that can get a bucket when needed.
Walker is only 27 years old and in the midst of his prime. The demand for him will be there. Question is, what will the Hornets be seeking in return?

If they’re trying to clear salary, you wouldn’t think much. Although, if I had to guess, I think the baseline offer would have to include one or two first-round picks coming back to Charlotte.
Charlotte is open for business, and their best player is on the block.
