NBA Trade Rumors: The Dallas Mavericks are willing to trade Wesley Matthews if the right offer comes along before the trade deadline
With the NBA trade deadline just two weeks away, team around the league are continuing to make calls and figure out which players will be available before the deadline.
One interesting player that could potentially help a contender or a playoff hopeful squad is Wesley Matthews. Even though he’s not the player he once was, Matthews still carries the capabilities to help in the stretch run.
The big question about Matthews was whether the Dallas Mavericks would dangle him on the trade block. Now, according to a report from Marc Stein of the New York Times, it appears Dallas is, at the very least, open to the idea of moving their veteran wing.

"[via New York Times]It would take a first-round pick to get him, because Dallas sees him as one of its culture-setters, but league sources say that the Mavs would part with Wes Matthews before the Feb. 8 trade deadline if they can get a first in return"
As Stein notes, it’s going to take a first-round pick in order to snag Matthews away from the Mavs. And his salary makes it a bit tricky, too. Although, Matthews could definitely help a team like the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Matthews is shooting 13 points per game this season on 39 percent from 3-point range. He’s a capable defender, and could provide some valuable depth and experience to a locker room.
Matthews has one year left on his contract after this season, and he’s due $18 million next year – which could be an issue for some teams that elect to take his contract on.
Keep an eye on the Clevleand Cavaliers as a potential landing spot for Matthews, especially if they fail to land a player like George Hill or Kent Bazemore, who the Cavs are reportedly interested in.

The Dallas Mavericks are 16-32, and second to the last in the Western Conference, so it’s no surprise they’re thinking about trading some of their veteran assets. Dallas could be the first of many teams that decide to take this stance.
