NBA Rumors: The Phoenix Suns are expected to be aggressive players in free agency this summer

Loaded with a myriad  of potential young superstars, led by Devin Booker, the Phoenix Suns aren’t settling for the long rebuild route.

As perhaps the most important summer in NBA history approaches, don’t count out the Suns as numerous big superstars prepare to hit the unrestricted free agent market. According to Suns GM Ryan McDonough, the team is expected to be aggressive during free agency this summer as they attempt to add more “win-now” pieces to their core.

A few free agents that are expected to hit the open market are Chris Paul, LeBron James, DeMarcus Cousins, Julius Randle, Nerlens Noel, Jabari Parker, Derrick Favors, Rodney Hood and others.

"[via AZ Central]General Manager Ryan McDonough told azcentral sports Saturday that the Suns will be more aggressive in free agency this summer than initially planned because, “the team is ready.”Citing the emergence of Devin Booker as an All-Star caliber talent and the productivity of small forward T.J. Warren, McDonough said it’s time for Phoenix to pivot as an organization, using its cap space and future assets to become a buyer in free agency."

I’m not exactly sure what the Suns would be seeking in free agency, but expect them to swing big. A few years ago, the Suns nearly stole LaMarcus Aldridge away from the San Antonio Spurs. Even though the Suns didn’t land the big fish, the fact that they got a meeting and finished in the top 3 for Aldridge, should certainly be a good sign for Phoenix heading into the summer.

Even though their management has been all over the place over the last few seasons – from trading Goran Dragic, Isaiah Thomas AND Eric Bledsoe in the span of a handful of years – the Phoenix Suns have somewhat become a fond landing spot for veterans over the last few years.

The weather isn’t terrible, it’s close enough to Los Angeles and they have one of the best medical teams in all the NBA. The Suns may not be a first option for many top free agents, but if it’s even in the conversation, they’ll have a shot to pitch. And anything can happen when you get someone in a closed room.

The bigger question, of course is whether or not this is a smart decision for the Suns. Should they shoot for the stars and try to add more win-now pieces during the summer? Or, alternatively, should they let their young players grow up on their own?
