NBA Trade Rumors: The Miami Heat are reportedly showing interest in DeMarre Carroll; could potentially move Justise Winslow

The Miami Heat are sitting in the 4th seed of the Eastern Conference, and have had a pretty successful season overall. However, that doesn’t mean changes can’t come before next week’s NBA trade deadline.

On cue, the Heat are reportedly showing interest in Brooklyn Nets wing DeMarre Carroll, who is having a superb bounce back season in Brooklyn this year.

After having his worst statistical season of his career (since becoming a starter) last year, Carroll is averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game. He’s also shooting 35 percent from 3-point range.

"[via The Athletic, Michael Scotto]Miami has also expressed interest in Nets forward DeMarre Carroll, league sources told The Athletic… rival executives believe former 10th overall pick Justise Winslow can be obtained on the trade market.”"

Question is, what type of deal could the Heat be interested in making with the Nets?

Since Carroll isn’t exactly the big name player that Pat Riley usually chases at the trade deadline, you’d have to assume that this is a tactic of Miami to try and unload one of their big contracts.

For example, a trade of James Johnson or Dion Waiters and Justise Winslow for Carroll works – Winslow would likely work as the sweetener for any deal between these two teams since Miami doesn’t exactly have any first-round picks to play with.

Or, maybe the Heat could also try and unload Tyler Johnson’s contract, which balloons to $19 million next season.

Even though Winslow has played much better as of late – you could actually make the argument that he’s the second-best playmaker (or best, depending on what you think of Goran Dragic), best defender and best perimeter rebounder – he might have the be sacrificed in order for the Heat to avoid salary hell.

Miami needs to may this type of trade sooner rather than later, thanks to the missteps that took place during the summer.
