NBA Trade Rumors: The Boston Celtics would reportedly weigh the option of trading Marcus Smart, if offered a first-round pick
Due to the wealth of talent that the Boston Celtics have on their roster and in their farm system, it’s no surprise that they’re considered the best young team – with the brightest future – in the league.
However, the big problem with having a myriad of young talent is that you simply can’t afford everyone. That’s why the team had to move Avery Bradley over the summer, and might be a why they end up moving Marcus Smart at the NBA trade deadline.
And according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics would weigh the option of moving him now if they get offered a first-round pick.

"[via ESPN]“You talk about Marcus Smart, he’s a player that’s available for a first round pick. If a team was willing to give Boston a first, Boston would look at.”“If they didn’t have to take back a lot of money going out in the future. He’s restricted this summer, you don’t know what it will cost to keep him.”"
As Woj notes, Smart will hit the restricted free agent market this summer and will likely be too expensive for the Celtics to re-sign him. Plus, with the way that Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier have played this season, Smart might already be considered expendable.
If Boston could flip Smart, who is likely leaving in free agency regardless, for a first-round pick before the trade deadline, it’d be another huge victory for Danny Ainge.

Smart has missed the team’s last four games after he suffered a cut on his right hand. Yesterday, it was reported that Smart could miss another two weeks as he continues to heal from the injury.
Smith is averaging 10 points, five assists and four rebounds per game this season with the Celtics.
