6. Orlando Magic: Trae Young, PG, Oklahoma

Big Board Rank: 6

With the Magic trading Elfrid Payton they should be in the market for a new point guard. So why not grab the best point guard prospect in the class? Young has taken college basketball by storm leading all division one players in both points and assists.
The Magic should have enough shooters to be able to give Young the spacing he’s going to need to reach his full potential. Nikola Vucevic is a wide body that can clear out a lot of space on ball screens for Young.

The Magic are a young team with a ton of athletes that want to get up and down the floor. The Magic are currently ranked 8th in number of possessions a game. Their young athletes like Aaron Gordon and Jonathan Isaac would thrive in this system.

However, Young’s lack of defense is something that won’t sit right with Frank Vogel. Even though some of those Magic player’s benefit from the up and down offense, guys like Evan Fournier, Nikola Vucevic, Bismack Biyombo, and DJ Augustin who have been given major contracts and are committed for the next few years aren’t a good fit for an up and down system that Young will need to be effective.
