Breaking down five of the top 2018 NBA Draft prospects, and identifying their best potential team fits

Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and an NBA website writing loads of articles about the draft.

While you may be sitting there rolling your eyes, those writers that you may poke fun at or use as a punchline watch hours of tape so you don’t have to; and/or so you can show off to your friends your extensive knowledge on players you’d never even heard of until five minutes ago. Just remember that the next time you want to complain about ‘another dumb draft article’. With that being said, let’s go over the parameters of this article.

As the title of the article alludes to, this is about best draft fits, so no, this isn’t a mock draft (but if you’re interested in that, we just released our 1.0 here). This is where I think the top prospects of this year’s draft class would have their skills maximized. What this also means is that I’m not going to just look at the most recent mock draft from Bleacher Report and take the first five names I see – I’m going to move around a bit. As fun as it would be to see Trae Young come off the bench in Golden State, he’s not falling outside of the top 10.

Building off of that last point, while I could write an entirely separate article doing what I just described, I’m going to try to be realistic. Teams like Toronto and the Warriors aren’t going to have a shot at landing DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic, so I’m going to be limiting my pool of teams to those projected to finish in the lottery.

I will be honest in saying that I haven’t been able to watch as much college basketball this year as I would have liked to, so I’m going to be doing just 5 of the top prospects – I’m not going to pretend to talk about something I don’t know too much about. What I can promise you is that for this piece I’ve done as much research as I can under the circumstances.

Those are really all the parameters I think you’ll need, so without further ado…
