NBA Rumors: Now that Corey Brewer has officially been bought out by the Los Angeles Lakers, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be in pursuit

At the NBA trade deadline, the majority feeling was that the Oklahoma City Thunder would be aggressive in their pursuit to replace the injured Andre Roberson. However, their limited assets, prevented that from happening.

The NBA’s buyout free agency period provided the team with another opportunity to add depth to their team.

But after Joe Johnson elected to sign with the Houston Rockets, it appeared like the Thunder would strike out again. However, now that Corey Brewer has been officially bought out, they have have been given another option.

Even though Brewer is no longer the player he once was, he could still be an interesting pickup for a team that could use every ounce of depth possible.

Brewer is expected to entertain other teams, but the a reunion with his former college coach Billy Donovan in Oklahoma City could make too much sense for it not to happen. Brewer is only 31 years old, but has seen his role in the NBA diminish over the last few seasons.

This season with the Lakers, Brewer is only averaging 13 minutes per game. While a big part of that is due to LA’s youth movement, it should temper expectations on what Brewer can and can’t do for the Thunder.

There’s no guarantee that he would even break this team’s rotation, but signing him would give the Thunder options – something that they don’t have a lot of at the moment. Plus, Brewer is a long 6-foot-9, and that alone could be the disruptor that the Thunder could be looking for on the open market.

No one player is going to replace Andre Roberson, who is arguably one of the best wing defenders in the league. But taking a shot on Corey Brewer wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the Thunder.
