The Denver Nuggets face a tough road ahead as they try to secure their first playoff spot since the 2012-13 season

As one of the NBA’s youngest teams, the Denver Nuggets have become exciting to watch as they continue to improve.

The Denver Nuggets are tied with the Utah Jazz and LA Clippers for the 8th and final spot in the Western Conference playoff race. To put how close the race in the West is, seeds 4-10 are just separated by two games.

Paul Millsap’s return couldn’t have occurred at a better time after a three-month absence due to a wrist injury.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Despite Millsap’s much-needed return, the Nuggets have struggled so far resulting in a 3-3 record. Millsap must become the defensive anchor as his veteran experience is contingent upon the team’s success.

Nikola Jokic is the biggest piece of the Nuggets’ success. He is indisputably the team’s best player and will need to replicate a dominant February in which he averaged 21.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists on 55.6 percent shooting.

Below are three key areas that the Nuggets must heavily focus on:

The Nuggets are currently 11-20 on the road and will go on a 9-game road trip next week. This will be the most crucial road trip of their season since they hold the worst road record among teams competing for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

That road trip isn’t the only hurdle for the young Denver Nuggets. Their six-game April schedule consists of experienced playoff-bound teams that will definitely give them trouble.

On a positive note, the Denver Nuggets have at least one or two days in between each game remaining. They have struggled during back-to-backs this season and rest is crucial to how their efforts pan out.

The question that arises is: will Paul Millsap be the leader Denver needs before it’s too late?

We will surely find out.
