19. San Antonio Spurs – Lonnie Walker, G, Miami
Selecting at No. 19, this will be the team’s highest draft pick since the 1997 NBA Draft (where they drafted Tim Duncan with the No. 1 overall pick). That’s amazing. History aside, the San Antonio Spurs should be looking for a two-guard at this point in the draft.
They likely won’t find a day 1 starter here, but they could find a player that could potentially evolve into that one day. Lonnie Walker is exactly that. He had his flashes of offensive brilliance during his freshman season with Miami, but wasn’t given enough of a role to truly flash off the tape.
You could make an argument that if Walker was given more minutes on another team, he’d be drafted a lot higher than 19. San Antonio could be getting a steal with Walker at this point in the draft.
