NBA Rumors: What each contender should be rooting for as the 2017-18 NBA season winds down in order to give themselves a real shot at landing LeBron James this summer

LeBron James may have narrowed his choices down to four teams, depending on who you’re willing to believe. And the betting markets seem to agree.

Here are the scenarios a few of the top candidates to sign (or re-sign) LeBron should be hoping for as the season winds down and the NBA playoffs begin.

CAVALIERS: The Incumbent

Vegas gives the Cavs as good a chance here as anyone, but I’m not so sure. I know it’s hard to imagine anyone ever wanting to leave Cleveland, but bear with me. If basketball were the only consideration it might even be a long shot. He may have roots in Ohio and feel loyalty, and yes moving is hard on families, but unless things break right, I think he’s leaving. If you’re a Cavs fan and want him to stay you’re probably rooting for scenarios like:

The Cavs win the Finals. Duh. Or they lose in the NBA Finals, and the Nets are so bad that their pick (you own) is top 4. LeBron still may not want to babysit any developmental projects next Fall so you make a blockbuster trade. Maybe something crazy like the 3rd pick and Kevin Love for Paul George? Bring back Andrew Wiggins?

But it’s a long shot and Cleveland could be heading back to the dark ages soon, especially if they don’t even make The Finals.

Root for a Rockets vs. Thunder Western Conference Finals. Why that would help will become more clear as we continue.
