Lonzo Ball (Rap Name: ZO)

Highlight Track: “Lavar Ball”

I kind of feel bad for Lonzo and anything he pursues outside of basketball. Because of the omnipresence of his father in anything he does, it’s probably going to get some flack. While Big Baller Brand kicks seem to be flying off the shelves and Zo’s basketball career is gaining momentum, his debut album aptly titled, Born 2 Ball, hit with a dud.

Full of new wave mumble and trap influences (He caught flack earlier this year for saying that “Don’t nobody listen to Nas no more”), each track has a similar feel to it (with the exception of standout “Lavar Ball” where he addresses his father in the limelight) and lyrics with little meaning. References to his career, the BBB brand, and the trappings of young fame abound, and get a little tiring early on. Lonzo is an ambitious dude with talent in multiple lanes but when it comes to the music, he wore on me pretty quick.

He currently has multiple songs on Spotify with multi-millions in streams but until he improves his flow and repertoire, it’s gonna be a no from me dog.
