Lowlight Track: “What You Need Freestyle”

When his career is over, KD will easily be one of the best to ever play the game. A near seven footer who can play any position on the court, he has every intangible you could ever need for a basketball player to succeed. Where he could maybe use a little more work? The studio. KD doesn’t have too much music out but what he does have out fails to impress. He has talked endlessly about his love for hip-hop and how he works on music in his down time often but has little to show for it.

In a grainy 2011 Youtube clip that looks like it was filmed in an abandoned warehouse, he rhymes over Watch the Throne’s “What You Need” instrumental with lines like, “catch me on twitter, H.A.M. gon’ kill her, on my feet you see J’s just like Lou Spiller (Who is Lou Spiller)” & “skullcandy headphones I’m just vibin out, … steady talking what he lyin’ bout.” His cadence is soft and his lines lack any sort of insight or inspiration.

He has tracks with his own artist, Philadelphia based spitter, Privaledge and Taylor Gang’s own Chevy Woods but hasn’t released anything in awhile. If he becomes even 1% more consistent in the booth than he is on the court than he can improve, but for now, stick to the rock KD.
