What happened the last time the Philadelphia 76ers faced the Miami Heat in the NBA Playoffs?

It wasn’t that long ago that the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat met in the playoffs. The faces are much different, but it was just a handful of years ago.

Last time these two teams met in the playoffs was actually pretty special. This was the first playoff series of the Big Three in Miami. This little dynasty started with my Sixers. So, how did that series go back in 2011?

Well, the Heat were the 2nd seed, and the Sixers were 7th. They met in the first round. While it ended in five games, it was somewhat competitive. There was a 21-point win by the Heat in Game 2. The points per game between the teams was a little less than eight, so yes, it was fairly close throughout.

The teams were built very differently, and it showed. The Sixers had five players score in double-figures, led by Elton Brand. Miami only had three players. The problem for the Sixers was that all three of the Heat’s top scorers scored more than Brand.

Also, two of the Heat’s top scorers averaged more than 20 points per game while Brand was at 15.6 per game. The Sixers had balance, but it wasn’t enough to cool down the Heat. All of the puns.

Ultimately, the Sixers, as well as most of the league, didn’t have an answer for LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. Well, teams in Texas knew how to defeat that trio. Anyway, the Sixers avoided being swept, which is also a nice thing.

The Heat’s roster was full of ghosts. A bunch of “Oh yeah, I remember him!”.

When they met in 2011, that was actually the first time they met in the playoffs. So, the Heat have a 4-1 advantage over the Sixers, all time. Can the Sixers get the sweep and take over the playoff history series? At least win in five to tie it up? At least it seems like the Sixers will move past the Heat.
