NBA Rumors: Is Kawhi Leonard done with the San Antonio Spurs, what’s his potential trade value and should your team target him?
A few days ago it was reported by Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania that San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard will likely not be back for this year’s playoffs. As per the report:
"“Leonard has made strides recently in training and is focused on regaining his full health, league sources told Yahoo Sports…. Leonard’s rehab program in New York has been in collaboration and with the approval of the Spurs’ medical staff, league sources said.”"
So might he have already played his last game ever as a Spur?
There are plenty of factors to consider involving a superstar player who has been hurt almost an entire season and also suffered a fractured relationship with his team. Teams like the LA Clippers are already scrambling to put together packages of assets to make an offer and other teams like the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers or Los Angeles Lakers may at least be brainstorming too.
NBA Finals MVPs, All-NBA First Teamers and two-time Defensive Player of the Year award winners do not grow on trees, so if he is set for divorce it’s a very big deal. Let’s try to break down what will go into the thinking the Spurs may do when deciding if they should “supermax” him or trade him; and do some of the due diligence other teams may be doing right now as they start to prepare trade offers for a possible bidding war this summer.
But let’s make it extra fun and use a ridiculous “should you date your buddy’s ex” analogy!
Think of the happiest and hottest couple you know. That really gorgeous duo who both have their $*it together. They both have their own friends, they host parties, exciting careers, passions or hobbies, maybe a puppy and two children. Oh and they met organically, not by tanking on Tinder!
And then suddenly you learn they may be having a horrible messy divorce! You wonder what could possibly have gone wrong. But then you have another thought. Whoa! I’m still single, desperate and lonely. I’ve always wanted what they’ve had. Maybe if she were with me, maybe we’d be the new happiest couple ever!
Let’s do some sleuthing before you make that really awkward call to check with your buddy to see A) if the news is true and B) if so, would he be cool if you…errr, you know, started dating his ex.
