NBA Rumors: The Chicago Bulls are expected to sit out the 2018 NBA Free Agency period, as they eye on making a big splash in 2019
The Chicago Bulls had a season to forget, their first without Jimmy Butler as their centerpiece. But there’s no question that there were certainly some bright spots during the 2017-18 NBA season.
When healthy, Zach LaVine looked like a potential building block of the future, and Lauri Markkanen certainly had his offensive explosive moments as well. Let’s also not forget that the Bulls currently have the sixth pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
With that projected top 6 pick, the Bulls should be able to add a nice young piece, especially in such a deep draft.

While they continue to compile young talent, they’re also reportedly keeping a close eye on the 2019 summer, where they hope to make a big splash – not so much during this offseason.
"[via NBC Sports Chicago]The assumption in league circles is the Bulls will wait until 2019 to make their big move when players like Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving could be on the market, and might consider signing with the Bulls after watching another year of development from LaVine, Lauri Markkanen and Kris Dunn."
The Bulls are smart for sitting out this summer. The summer of 2019 offers them much more of an opportunity to sign one of the big names. This offseason, the only real big names that could move are LeBron James and Paul George, and neither of them are likely to even take a meeting with the Bulls.
Chicago is wise to let their young guns continue to grow over the course of next season and then make a smart evaluation ahead of the bug 2019 NBA free agency period.
If the Bulls feel that they’re one big piece, or two medium sized pieces away, from real contention, then perhaps it would behoove them to make an all-out effort to hit free agency hard.

But there’s really no rush for the Bulls right now. Then again, they said something similar two summers ago, then went on to sign Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade.
So, who knows?
