NBA Rumors: Juwan Howard emerges as coaching candidate for Knicks
NBA Rumors: The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in interviewing Juwan Howard for their head coaching vacancy
The New York Knicks are knee-deep into their search for a new head coach, but that hasn’t stopped them from seeking out – and interviewing – other candidates.
And one of those new names, that hasn’t yet surfaced, is Miami Heat assistant Juwan Howard.
According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the team could interview Howard as soon as this weekend. In other words, we have no idea when it’s going to happen but it might soon.
Howard has been an assistant for the Miami Heat for many years. He first joined the Heat staff in 2013, after playing for the franchise to finish his career. Howard hasn’t gotten much look at for other head coaching jobs in the NBA, but it was bound to happen sooner rather than later.
The Memphis Grizzlies recently hired Dave Fizdale (who is now a coaching free agent) away from Erik Spoelstra’s coaching staff, and that was only the beginning.
In addition to their interest in Howard, the Knicks are also reportedly interested in the likes of Mark Jackson, Kenny Smith, Mike Budenholzer and others. The Knicks aren’t likely to name their new coach anytime soon, but there are certainly enough candidates where they should find a good candidate.
New York is one of the NBA’s most intriguing coaching jobs, as they already have one really nice building block in Kristaps Porzingis. They also have another top 10 pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

The Knicks are one of the better young teams in the NBA, and need a new leader of the locker room. It didn’t work out for Jeff Hornacek, but his firing likely had more to do with the fact that he was Phil Jackson’s guy.
