NBA Rumors: The Sacramento Kings will reportedly take Deandre Ayton or Luka Doncic with the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft
The Sacramento Kings can’t really mess up in the draft this year. They can’t possibly. After being one of the biggest winners on lottery night, in which they jumped five spots to the second overall pick, the Kings are in a position that they simply haven’t been in quite some time.
It’s going to be pretty simple for the Kings. They don’t have to overthink this process much. There are three prospects, and then there is everybody else.
Depending on what the Phoenix Suns do with the top overall pick, the Kings will simply take the other prospect.
The good news is that it sounds like the Kings will do just that – and they won’t make this any more complicated than they have the tendency to do.
Hearing initially Kings gladly willing to take whoever Suns leave on the board after first pick (Luka or Ayton), with neither falling below second if picks are kept. The Hawks are the team that could flip the rest of the draft board upside down as the true wildcard at No. 3.

From the sound of it, the Kings’ draft board is Luka Doncic and Deandre Ayton, and then everyone else. However, don’t be surprised if a Marvin Bagley begins to jump up the board during pre-draft workouts.
But, overall, the Kings can’t go wrong here. And even if they do, you can’t blame them. These two prospects are rated the top players in this draft by a long shot, and even if the Kings’ pick doesn’t pan out there won’t be any room to blame them.
From a fit standpoint, Doncic is exactly what the Kings need on the roster. They have a couple nice building blocks in De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield, but adding a playmaking wing like Doncic could make this team one of the most fun watches in the Western Conference – and that’s saying a lot.
