NBA Rumors: The Detroit Pistons have made Dwane Casey their top target as the team’s next head coach
After parting ways with Stan Van Gundy, the Detroit Pistons are at a bit of a crossroads. They have a roster that you’d think is ready to compete in the Eastern Conference, but is coming off back-to-back seasons in which they have not made the postseason.
In fact, the Pistons have only made the playoffs once in the last nine seasons. It’s been a nearly decade long rut, and they’re desperate to break it.
Finding the right head coach would go a long way in doing so. This is not to say that SVG isn’t a good coach, it’s just that he wasn’t the right man for the job – and that’s OK.

So, who should the Pistons be targeting? It’s a good question, and there’s one really great candidate on the open market. The good news is that the Pistons know that, and have reportedly made him their top candidate.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarnowski, if Detroit has their way, Dwane Casey will be the next head coach for the Pistons.
"[via ESPN]The Pistons’ top target in the coaching search is former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey, according to league sources."
Casey is coming off arguably his best season as the head coach of the Toronto Raptors, even though they fell at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs for a third straight year. Nevertheless, the Raptors were the top seed in the Eastern Conference, and seemed like the favorites to come out of the East.
Then LeBron happened, as it has so often in the last decade.

If you want to paint that on Casey, fine. But, there’s no denying that even though Casey failed to get over the LeBron hurdle, he’s still a fine coach – and could do some really good things for a talented team like the Pistons.
