Charles Matthews, Michigan, Returning For Senior Year

A key piece of Michigan’s run to the National Championship Game will be returning for his senior year. Charles Matthews announced Wednesday morning that he would be withdrawing from NBA Draft consideration.

Matthews did not receive an invite to the NBA Draft Combine however, he did participate in a few pre-draft workouts. According to The Detroit News:

"“Matthews has had at least two pre-draft workouts this week with the Denver Nuggets and reportedly the New York Knicks.”"

The 21-year will likely take on a larger role in his return to Michigan. After averaging 13 points and 5 rebounds per game Matthews took his play to another level in the NCAA tournament. He averaged 14.6 points along with 6.2 rebounds per game over the course of Michigan’s six game tournament run.

Despite his impressive tournament showing, Matthews only projected to be a late second round pick or undrafted free agent. Michigan Head Coach John Beilein made the right call here in encouraging his veteran guard to return for another season.
