NBA Rumors: The Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks are two teams that could trade down in the 2018 NBA Draft

The 2018 NBA Draft is less than two weeks away, and teams have no choice but to try and find the right formula for their franchise moving forward.

For some that could mean trading up in order to try and steal the player they believe is going to be the best prospect. For others, like the Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks (according to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor), that means possibly trading down.

That could open the door for a team like the LA Clippers or Phoenix Suns who are either trying to crash the top 10 party or interested in adding a second high pick.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via The Ringer]The Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks are open to moving down in the draft, according to multiple sources. The Kings are attempting to accrue more young players and may not be sold on a clear-cut option at No. 2.The Mavericks, meanwhile, will try to compete to reach the playoffs next season. Dallas owns the No. 5 pick."

The Kings hold the second overall pick and pretty much will dictate the way the draft will unfold. Assuming that the Suns will take DeAndre Ayton with the No. 1 overall pick, the Kings should be taking Luka Doncic.

However, if they’re not sold in him as a prospect, that could open the door for a trade down. If the Kings can add another asset all while still getting their target at, say, 6 or 7, why shouldn’t they take that route?

As for the Mavs, it’s the same reasoning. Dallas could swap the 5th pick in exchange for an asset that could help them this season. Mark Cuban doesn’t seem like the type that is willing to wait around forever. He’s always chasing those offseason whales, and if moving the 5th pick can open a shortcut to relevance, there’s no question that he will seriously entertain the idea of taking it.
