Most Overrated Shooting Guard: Zhaire Smith, Texas Tech

Somehow, Zhaire Smith has shot up NBA Draft boards over the last few weeks. Yes, he looks good in his workouts. How can he not. He’s an athletic freak and his jumper looks better by the day. He’s still very unproven, more than most prospects in this pool, and that absolutely scares me.

There’s drafting based on potential and then there’s ranking Smith as a top 12 overall player in this pool. Let’s slow down a bit on Zhaire Smith.

Could he eventually grow into a solid contributor in the NBA? Absolutely. Will he be that in year one or even two? Unlikely. Let’s remember, Smith averaged just 11 points per game during his freshman season at Texas. He was also only asked to take seven shots per game.
