NBA Trade Rumors: Toronto Raptors eyeing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?
NBA Trade Rumors: The Toronto Raptors are reportedly eyeing the possibility of trading for a top 15 pick, in order to draft Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
The Toronto Raptors should be looking at all the possibly avenues in order to, at the very least, shuffle their roster, and at the most improve the team drastically. Somewhere in-between is a happy medium, one that the Raptors will likely fall into at some point this summer.
Although, they’re trying to find that on NBA Draft night. According to New York Times writer Marc Stein, the Raptors are reportedly interested in trying to acquire a top 15 pick (which will be needed) in order to draft Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
SGA is expected to be a top 15, and even some mocks have him in the top 10. In order to have a shot at drafting him, they’re going to need, at least, a pick in-between the ranges of 12-15.
I’m not sure how much it will cost the Raptors to make the splash, but almost certainly a rotation player (or two) and a future first-round pick.
Another interesting aspect of this tweet/report is the fact that SGA is a guard and a team that already has one of the best backcourt tandems targeting a lottery-projected guard is…noteworthy.
What does that mean for Kyle Lowry? DeMar DeRozan? Well, nothing…yet. But it’d be interesting to see what exactly they plan on doing with SGA – and how much they’re willing to give up for this top pick.

It’s entirely realistic that they hope to add SGA for depth, and the future. But it wouldn’t be at all surprising for the Raptors to shop one or both Lowry and DeRozan over the next few months. Perhaps they could shock everyone by making a big splash on draft night, ending with them taking SGA and making a pivot to the future.
