NBA Draft: Rumours, Trades, and More!
9:12 PM TRADE:
8:43 PM TRADE:
Thoughts: Both Woj and Shams had conflicting reports however, it appears as though Bridges will be heading to the Hornets. Michael Porter Jr. remains on the board.
8:21 PM: Sounds like Kevin Knox might be going to New York
Thoughts: If you are not allowed to leak it, say it another way.
8:15 PM: Cavs to select Sexton
Thoughts: Sexton plays with amazing fire and intensity. Whether or not LeBron James leaves, this is a solid pick for Cleveland.
8:05 PM: Carter Jr. to Chicago
Thoughts: So much for no early leaks!
8:00 PM: Mo Bamba to Orlando
7:46 PM: No other players will be involved in Doncic/Young swap.(Woj)
Thoughts: Deal hinges on Young being available at 5.
Trade: Mavericks trading up for Doncic.
Thoughts: It will be interesting to see who is involved here. Doncic will now get to learn from his hero, Dirk.
7:40 PM: Bagley is Kings’ “guy”
Thoughts: So much for not leaking the selections early. Marc Stein is on a roll so far tonight. Sacramento has a plethora of bigs on their roster now.
7:33 PM: Ayton heading to Phoenix.
Thoughts: Phoenix had reported interest in RFA Clint Capela. However, now that they have added Ayton they may go in a different direction during free-agency. The 2018 first-overall pick played college at University of Arizona.
7:30 PM: Will Michael Porter Jr. drop?
Thoughts: If Porter Jr. is still available for the Clippers it would be a huge coup. They will have back to back selections and it could prove to be a massive luxury.
7:25 PM: Memphis holding on, for now.
Thoughts: Welcome everyone to the 2018 NBA Draft. We could be in for a wild night. Oh and it sounds like Memphis will be holding on to their pick.
5:51 PM: Trade brewing between Hawks and Mavs?
Thoughts: Since the deadline for 2018 picks to be traded this would be the only way Atlanta could trade back. If Ayton and Bagley really are going 1 and 2 flipping Doncic and moving down would take some pressure off the Hawks.
Not really sure how this trade works out for Dallas though. Dennis Smith Jr and Luka Doncic are both players who are at the best when the ball is in their hands. More to come.
Big Rumors:
Note: The deadline for trades involving draft picks for tonight has passed. This means that any trade involving a 2018 selection will have to be official once the pick is made during tonight’s draft.
**3:32 PM: Kings leaning towards Bagley**:
Thoughts: With the draft still hours away anything could happen. Sacramento’s front office could always change their mind. Will be interesting to see how Atlanta reacts to this speculation.
3:32 PM: Lakers reach out to Spurs re: Kawhi Leonard
Thoughts: Too early to tell here. The pick Los Angeles acquired earlier could be a part of any potential deal.
3:02 PM: Wizards trying to move Gortat
Thoughts: It does not seem surprising that Washington would try to move the 34-year old. However, moving Gortat without giving up a draft pick will be easier said than done. More to come as this progresses.
June 21st, 2:05 pm: Nets buyout Dwight Howard
Thoughts: Slow news day so far however, it appears as though Dwight Howard will be entering free-agency. Expect things to pick up within the next hour or so. Has “Superman” entered journeyman status?
June 21st, 12:01 pm: Kings Reportedly “decided” at No. 2.
Thoughts: Appears as though Sacramento’s plan hinges on Ayton going to Phoenix. Multiple report have linked the Kings to both Luke Doncic and Marvin Bagley. Either prospect would fit the bill of “franchise altering.”
Mavs to take Michael Porter Jr. at No. 5?
June 21st, 9:45 AM: Dallas Mavericks preparing to select Michael Porter Jr.?
Thoughts: This is an interesting piece of information, especially considering that Sacramento could move down for MPJ too. Could this just all be a ploy by Cuban and the Mavs?
Sacramento Kings will pick Marvin Bagley or Michael Porter Jr.
June 21st, 9:30 AM: The Sacramento Kings are reportedly deciding between Marvin Bagely or Michael Porter Jr.
Thoughts: I suppose it’s safe to assume, now, that Luka Doncic will be falling to No. 3. Or, a team that wants Doncic, could move up with Sacramento to ensure the Hawks or Grizzlies don’t snag him.
Heat trying to trade into first-round
June 21st, 8:33 AM: Miami Heat are reportedly trying to trade for a first-round pick ahead of tonight’s draft.
Thoughts: This is not surprising, to say the least. The problem is, the Heat don’t have a ton of assets and even the ones they do have might not be enough to net them a first-round selection. Miami is reportedly actively trying to trade Hassan Whiteside and/or Tyler Johnson.
Grizzlies shopping 4th overall pick
June 21st, 12:02 AM: Celtics, Bulls, Mavericks, Nuggets, Clippers, Knicks, Magic interested in Grizzlies #4 pick. Chandler Parsons could be a part of any potential deal
Thoughts: If Memphis cannot get “their guy” with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, trading back is a smart move. Also, offloading the remaining $49.2 million remaining on Chandler Parsons’ (over the next two seasons) would be huge for the team moving forward.

Trading back allows the Grizzlies to be more flexible with their pick and offload a terrible contract. The big question remains, what is Memphis looking for in return? If they want a quality rotation player AND cap relief, this becomes all the more complicated.
