What is likely to happen?

As we stated earlier, this is not something that will be simple. However, in the end, I believe the Rockets have no other choice but to give in and offer Chris Paul the max contract that he’s going to demand on the open market. Even if Houston only has a 10-15 percent chance to win an NBA Championship over the next three years, that’s something that Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets have to take.

It could result in this team being maxed out in year 4 and 5 of Paul’s final two seasons, but it’s a trade that the Rockets should take. This team arguably would’ve beaten the Golden State Warriors and Paul never gotten injured in Game 5.

That’s something that, I believe, will play a factor when the Rockets are making a decision.

Especially if the LeBron dream is out of the picture, Houston needs to re-sign Chris Paul. They can’t afford to take a step back this upcoming season. And if that means suffering a bit in a few years, it’s a risk that the Rockets need to take.
