NBA Free Agency: Ranking the top 10 points guards on the open market
5. Fred VanVleet, Toronto Raptors (unrestricted)
Stats: 8.6 points, 3.2 assists, 41% 3PT
Fred VanVleet really bursted onto the scene during his time with the Toronto Raptors this past season, averaging 12 points per game on 50 percent shooting from 3-point range in a red-hot January. He was one of the biggest reasons why the Raptors’ bench worked this season, and was really missed in the playoffs.
Even though he’s a bit undersized at 6-feet tall, VanVleet is the type of player that can anchor a bench unit. He’s going to be in for a nice payday this summer; it’s just a matter of from who. VanVleet is just 24 years old, so any investment would be a worthy one.
Again, I don’t think any team is going to look for VanVleet to be a starter next season, but he could come in and produce at a high level.
