Signing with the Golden State Warriors was the smartest move that DeMarcus Cousins could’ve made in NBA Free Agency

After their Californian counterpart Los Angeles Lakers made a barage of noteable free agent signings including LeBron James, JaVale McGee, Rajon Rondo, and Lance Stephenson, the Golden State Warriors stole day 2 of NBA Free Agency by signing Demarcus Cousins to a one year deal.

Adding the All-star center makes the reigning NBA Champions even deadlier. Their weakest position was the center and now they have one of the most lethal offensive weapons in the league at that position.

Not only that, but the Dubs got Boogie at a major discount. Due to his torn Achilles injury, a number of teams were weary of offering Cousins the max contract that a player of his caliber demands. Many are still unsure if he can return to his pre-injury Allstar level of play. However, this deal makes sense for both parties.

The Warriors get one of the best players in the league at only $5.3 Million. On the flip side, Cousins now has the next year to show that he can still play at the same level we are used to seeing, and command a major paycheck when he becomes a free agent next summer.

Additionally, this deal will allow the Warriors to rest their other stars, giving them even greater depth throughout the lineup. There is no question that Boogie’s numbers match up with any top big man in the NBA.

However, like players such as James Harden and Chris Paul, Cousins faces the dilemma that his incredible stats have not led him to win a title yet, which we all know is a defining facet of achievement in this league. But he now has a chance to add to his potential hall of fame resume with the pursuit of a championship and cement his legacy by achieving the only thing missing from his short but already impressive career.

This deal is smart for both the Warriors and Cousins as this signing places the Dubs even further ahead of the rest of the basketball world, and sets up a perfect opportunity for Boogie to earn a significant financial gain in 2019.
