NBA Rumors: Jimmy Butler, who is entering the final year of his contract with Minnesota, has no interest in signing an extension with the Wolves
Jimmy Butler is expected to headline the 2019 NBA Free Agency class.e However, for the most part, the expectation is that he’s probably going to re-sign an extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After all, the team just traded for him a year ago and has one of the youngest cores in the NBA, headlined by Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. Although, things aren’t always as they seem.
According to a recent report from the Chicago Sun-Times, Butler doesn’t have any intention of signing an extension with the Wolves – and could be playing his final games this season in a Wolves jersey.

"[via Chicago Sun-Times]All-Star shooting guard Jimmy Butler reportedly has “no intentions” of signing a contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, due to issues with his teammates.According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, Butler is “all but fed up with the nonchalant attitude of his younger teammates,” specifically center Karl-Anthony Towns."
From the sound of this report, it appears that Butler is tired of relying on young, inexperienced players in big-time moments. While this report mentions Karl-Anthony Towns, there have been recent reports that the franchise, as a whole, is concerned with how much Andrew Wiggins isn’t progressing as a player.
They’re quickly going to regret giving him that big contract, and he simply refuses to play defense and adds little to the offense other than scoring.
This past season, Wiggins only averaged 18 points per game – down nearly six points from the season before, although at least some of that has to do with the arrival of Jimmy Butler – and four rebounds and just two assist per game.
He also shot a career-low 44 percent from the field and an anemic 33 percent from 3-point range.

Even though there are concerns, the good news is that the Wolves have time to fix things. And maybe that starts with swapping Wiggins out for more veteran-laden pieces. Either way, they have to try something. This team can’t afford to lose Jimmy Butler.
