5. Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns were able to add 1st overall pick DeAndre Ayton to add to the young core of Devin Booker and Josh Jackson. They will have to wait another season or two to really see tangible results from this trio, but they will.

Add two-time NCAA champion Mikal Bridges to the mix and the Suns have a promising future. The defense will be a major issue with this squad, the addition of Trevor Ariza alone won’t be enough to offset the negative contributions from nearly every starter. He will be a welcomed addition though and should be a good mentor for the wing players.

Dragan Bender and Marquise Chriss are steadily improving, though still don’t look ready to make meaningful contributions yet. Phoenix may be better than some of their Eastern Conference contemporaries but the west is just too tough this year, wins will be very hard to come by in their own conference. The Suns are on the rise, but not this year.
