Here are five players who, while talented and have shown promise, are poised to have a breakout year during the 2018-19 NBA season
Everyone likes to discuss who could win the Most Valuable Player of the Year Award in the NBA and which teams are going to make the biggest jump in the standings. But it’s not often that you see discussion centered around which individuals are poised to make a huge jump in their production and skill set.
Here are five players who are ready to take their game to the next level in the 2018-19 NBA season.
Dejounte Murray, San Antonio Spurs
With the Kawhi Leonard era officially a wrap, the San Antonio Spurs will be turning the page to the reign of DeMar DeRozan. And while DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge will likely lead the Spurs in scoring, third-year guard Dejounte Murray is a player to keep tabs on.
In his two years on the scene, Murray hasn’t been a spectacle, but he has showcased the ability to put the ball in the cup. He can score, is athletic, can get to the rim quickly, and is a competent defender. Averaging 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in 21.5 minutes a night, Murray was able to make an impact on both ends of the floor last season off head coach Gregg Popovich’s bench. Potentially starting, or at least playing more minutes, will be an adjustment for the 21-year-old, but he has the skill set and experience with the Spurs to prosper.
Pus, with some new faces in place, as well as a new starting five, this season will be an adjustment for everyone on the Spurs roster.
With Tony Parker now on the Charlotte Hornets, Murray will have the opportunity to man a bigger role where he will likely start and be a crucial part of their offense; the guard is poised for a breakout season.
