Predicting the 2020 USA Basketball Olympic roster

The Team USA minicamp recently took place and it gave a small glimpse into what we could possibly see when the 2020 Olympics come up.

Team USA has been downright dominant during the Olympics since finishing third in 2004. The U.S. has gone 24-0 in the last three Olympics, winning Gold all three times. The roster for 2020 could drastically change over the next two seasons with injuries or older players deciding they no longer want to play during their offseason.

With that said, here is an early look at what Team USA could look like: (Assuming the U.S. goes with 5 guards, 5 forwards, and 2 centers).

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Guards: Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, James Harden

The guard position is the deepest for Team USA and it’ll be tough for the younger players like Devin Booker and Donovan Mitchell to beat one of them out. All five of them have significant international experience from Olympics to FIBA competitions.

Westbrook, Irving, Curry, and Harden can all play either guard position and Thompson is a lights out shooter who fits perfectly in the international setting.

Forwards: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler

The guard position is deep but it’s tough to see any country in 2020 being able to stop a lineup featuring some combination of James, Durant, George, Leonard, and Butler.

All five are scorers who can look down opposing players on defense. With this likely being LeBron James’s last Olympics look for him to want to go out in dominant fashion.

Centers: Anthony Davis, Draymond Green

The center position is tricky as in years past they have had bigs such as DeAndre Jordan and Kevin Love but I’d imagine they look to go more versatile in 2020. With Davis they have a typical center who can stretch the floor and rim protect and in Green they have an underside center who is capable of guarding every position on the floor.
