Dwight Howard: The rise and fall of an all-star
By Harry Wahl
The one-and-done Dwight
A good rule of thumb for determining the baseline value for any NBA player is the number of teams they are a part of during a period of time. After eight years with Orlando, a brief stint with the Lakers, and three years with Houston, Dwight Howard began a string of one year contracts starting with Atlanta, then Charlotte, and most recently landing him in Washington.
The difference between most late stage NBA mercenaries and Dwight? Most basketball guns for higher have their choice of competitors to choose from. Dwight does not. Howard was traded to the Nets and then waived as a means for them to clear cap space.
This gave him the ability to choose any team he wanted and rumors swirled that the center was interested in joining the Warriors, but it appears they did not reciprocate those feelings.
