NBA Rumors: Spurs’ Manu Ginobili leaning towards retirement?
NBA Rumors: San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili is reportedly seriously considering retiring from the NBA
For most NBA fans over the age of 25, when you hear the name Manu Ginobili the memories are quite fond. And if you’re a San Antonio Spurs fan, even more so.
You might think of the time he caught a bat with his bare hands, or if you’re even older his flowing long hair on his way to the bucket in the NBA Finals. Maybe it’s his sick euro-step or his deadline step-back jumper. Maybe it’s his clutch gene, or his ability to get the job done no matter what the ailment.
Whatever you remember, all of it points to the greatness of one of the best non-American players of all-time.

But his time in the NBA, after playing 16 seasons (all with the San Antonio Spurs) might be coming to an end. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Manu is seriously considering hanging up his sneakers and he may have already played his last game in the NBA.
"[via ESPN]San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, a future Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, is seriously considering retirement and plans to meet with coach Gregg Popovich in the coming days to discuss his future, league sources told ESPN."
If this is indeed the end for Ginobili, it makes sense. Tim Duncan retired a few seasons ago and Tony Parker is no longer with the club. Manu is the last piece that is still technically with the team, but his decision to call it quits would close a chapter in Spurs’ history.
It’s probably one that’s already pretty much closed, even more so after Kawhi Leonard was traded to the Toronto Raptors. But Manu would officially close the book on the golden age for the Spurs.
At 41 years old, it’s hard to blame Manu for possibly leaning towards retirement. After all, his body has been through the ringer and might not be able to play another 82 games this season.
This could be the perfect time for a change, for both parties. No matter how much it hurts.
