The depth is a killer

The depth is where things change significantly. The West is clearly deeper than the East, no question about it.

You can tell by simply looking at the teams in the West that will be fighting for the final four spots in the playoffs. There are roughly seven teams (Blazers, Jazz, Wolves, Pelicans, Spurs, Nuggets, Grizzlies) that will be trying to secure one of the 5-8 spots in the West.

In the East, there are really just five teams (Heat, Wizards, Pacers, Pistons, Hornets) that have a legit shot at securing one of those final four spots at making the playoffs. And I’m not even sure a team like the Hornets should even be in the conversation.

Ultimately, depth is where the West overpowers in the East when it comes to conference strength.
