NBA Rumors: Karl-Anthony Towns has agreed to a super max extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, which could mean a Jimmy Butler trade is coming soon

Last week, it was reported that Karl-Anthony Towns wasn’t going to sign his long-term extension until the situation between Jimmy Butler and the Minnesota Timberwolves was resolved. It’s now being reported that KAT and the Wolves have agreed to a long-term extension. You do the math.

Towns and the Timberwolves agreed to a five-year, $190 million super max extension that will keep him in Minnesota for the foreseeable future. If you can put two and two together, that could mean that the Jimmy B situation has resolved.

Which could mean that a Jimmy B trade, who reportedly has been excused from the start of training camp this week, could be on the verge of coming together.

Jimmy Butler reportedly gave a wishlist of three teams to the Wolves, which include the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers. However, with that said, that doesn’t mean other teams, prepared to roll the dice on no commitment beyond this season, couldn’t come in and create some sort of bidding war.

The Knicks have been vocal about their interest in keeping the valuable assets that they’ve collected over the last few seasons (Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox), but would it really be surprising to see New York have a change of heart and take a big swing here?

The Nets are an interesting option, but I find it hard to believe that they have enough assets to put together a package to force Minnesota’s hand. You’d have to believe, if a trade comes soon, the Los Angeles Clippers have to be the overwhelming favorites.

Short of a team like the Miami Heat or Los Angeles Lakers coming out of left field and putting together a package, with picks, watch the Clippers here over the next few days. Jimmy Butler could be in a different uniform quicker than you realize.
