Miami Heat: How hard should the Heat push for a Jimmy Butler trade?
Should the Miami Heat be all-in while pursuing a Jimmy Butler trade? We explore the advantages and disadvantages of both outcomes
The latest rumblings coming out of the Jimmy Butler trade demand are juicy. While there are a myriad of teams in pursuit of the all-star shooting guard, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, one of the more aggressive teams at the moment is the Miami Heat.
This report doesn’t necessarily mean that the Heat are the favorites to land Jimmy Butler, but that they’re certainly in the running. With that said, how hard should Miami push for the 29-year-old wing? We explore.
First things first, what should the Heat offer and what should be the line? A few players that should absolutely be on the table for a potential deal are: Justise Winslow, Hassan Whiteside, Tyler Johnson and James Johnson.

Without question, each of those players should be available for the Wolves. They can have anyone of them or even a combination of them. No question, or even second thoughts. But this is where it gets a bit dicey.
What if Minnesota says they want more? Does Miami walk away? Do they counter with a second slate of potential assets?
Fro the Heat’s standpoint, I think they say OK, here are a few more pieces that COULD be had in the right combination.
The next group of assets that are their top assets are: Kelly Olynyk, Goran Dragic, Bam Adebayo, Josh Richardson and a first-round pick.
The Heat loves Richardson and Bam, and would likely not want to include them in any Jimmy B trade. But, if they want to pull it off, they just might have to add one of them as a sweetener. Butler is 29 years old and is in line for a super max extension next summer. It’s going to cost the Heat a lot of money to keep Butler moving forward.
Are they willing to give a 30-year-old that type of money? It’s a tough decision to make, and one that will ultimately come down to whether the Heat believes if adding Jimmy Butler right now will help them build their way back into the conversation of potentially winning the East.
If they believe that to be true, I think the answer to whether they should be all-in on Jimmy Butler is pretty clear.
