NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers to start Rajon Rondo, not Lonzo Ball
NBA Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to start Rajon Rondo a point guard over Lonzo Ball to start the season
At least entering training camp, and likely to start the season, Rajon Rondo is expected to be the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. That means Lonzo Ball will be coming off the bench.
It’s tough to say whether this would be happening had Ball been healthy and not recovering from a procedure he had done over the summer, but it likely at least played some factor here.
Either way, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Especially in the NBA, it doesn’t really matter who starts games. What matters is who the other four players that will be finishing games with LeBron James.

"[via ESPN]“Luke Walton told me today that Rajon Rondo will be the Lakers’ starting point guard to start the year. Lonzo told me he was just cleared today for full contact practice, but Walton had already said that won’t include scrimmaging.”"
It’s a long season and perhaps by the time Lonzo Ball is 100 percent, he’ll be the starter once again. LeBron James and the Lakers are about winning, and getting better. If that means starting Rondo, then they’ll start him. If that means giving Ball the job about sputtering with Rondo with the starting five, they’ll make the adjustment.
Nevertheless, this is really the first interesting decision that Luke Walton needed to make. As talented as Ball is, many just assumed that the job would be his. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
On the other side, coming off the bench, even at least just to start the season, could do Ball good. He would thrive against other team’s second units and could take his time in finding his rhythm once again.
There is still a lot to be sorted out regarding the Los Angeles Lakers this season, and things are going to change (likely) on a daily basis. It’s not necessary to get wrapped up in these types of decisions.
