NBA Trade Rumors: If the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to add another star to their team, they should start targeting Anthony Davis

There is a lot of discussion about who the Los Angeles Lakers could eventually pair with LeBron James next year, and beyond.

And most of that has revolved around Kawhi Leonard (of course, and it’s no surprise why), Kevin Durant (who would create a frenzy if he actually made the move from Golden State to Los Angeles) or even the likes of Klay Thompson (you already know his LA connection).

Even though each of those players would be excellent and tremendous additions, especially considering what the Lakers currently have on their roster, the best possible target is neither of those three players.

The Lakers should shift their focus to Anthony Davis, who has two guaranteed years remaining on his contract with the New Orleans Pelicans and just recently signed with Rich Paul, LeBron’s agency.

Davis has said all the right things, and hasn’t shown any signs of unhappiness during his time with the Pelicans. At the same time, there are already whispers floating around that Davis could secretly want out. As is always the case when it comes to NBA whispers, they should be taken with a grain of salt.

But, if you ask ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, he’ll tell it to you straight out. And he believes that Davis wants out and will eventually make it out of New Orleans. And a few teams to keep an eye on is Los Angeles, Golden State and Boston. You can hear Smith here.

Who knows if Davis really wants out, but I do know that these whispers are only going to get louder and louder. Even more so if the Pelicans get off to a shaky start this season, or if they miss the playoffs altogether – which is a real possibility with how the Western Conference is looking this season.

The Lakers will eventually add another star to play next to LeBron, probably sooner rather than later. But there’s no question who they should target, it’s Anthony Davis.
