NBA Rumors: As Kyrie Irving commits to the Boston Celtics long-term, should Danny Ainge shift his focus to Anthony Davis?
Kyrie Irving did all he could to quiet the rumors that were only going to grow louder and louder throughout the season by saying he was going to re-sign with the Boston Celtics this summer. I guess to Irving to New York whispers can slowly die.
However, as one dies another is born.
That’s because shortly after Kyrie announced his desire it was reported that he had conversations with Anthony Davis about the possibility of joining the Celtics in the future. Even though these aren’t the first AD to Boston rumors that we’ve heard before, the fact that Davis only has two years renaming on his deal makes it that much more real.

Plus, many are pointing to Davis as possibly the big name to potentially demand out. In today’s player-controlled league, it’s becoming more and more the norm. Just in the last year, we’ve seen Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard and now Jimmy Butler do it.
Would it really be that surprising if Davis became the next player on that list? Davis has given everything he’s had to the New Orleans Pelicans throughout the first few years of his career, but it hasn’t really worked out. They haven’t had much success and haven’t built well around Davis during the last few seasons.
Even though they did have somewhat of a break through last season, making it to the second round of the playoffs, they lost two big pieces from that team, in DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo.
It’s going to be interesting to watch the Pelicans play this season, and if they get off to a rough spot don’t be surprised if these whispers begin to grow louder and louder.
And if Davis does hit the trade market, there might not be a team out there with better assets than Boston, which should absolutely scare the rest of the NBA.
