Will Barton is expected to miss 5-6 weeks, but it’s not the end of the world for the deep Denver Nuggets

In the past, the Denver Nuggets have been devastated by injuries. So much so that it may have cost them a playoff appearance or two.

Last season, they missed the playoffs by one game. Considering that Paul Millsap missed a good portion of last season, health likely cost this team a return to the postseason. And after a hot start to this season, it appears that the injury bug has hit the Nuggets yet again.

After injuring his groin in the second game of the season, it has now been announced that Will Barton is expected to miss 5-6 weeks once he undergoes surgery on his injury.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via ESPN]Nuggets guard Will Barton will have surgery Tuesday on his right hip area to repair the adductor muscle and is expected to be out five to six weeks, a source told ESPN’s Marc Spears."

Before exiting because of injury, Barton had gotten off to a stellar start to the season, averaging 16.5 points and five rebounds on 57 percent shooting from the field and 56 percent from 3-point rang through two games.

He is fresh off signing a long-term extension with the Nuggets this summer, which will net him $50 million over the next four seasons in Denver. Despite losing a valuable piece of their starting 5, Denver might be deep enough to overcome the loss.

In Sunday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors, Juan Hernangomez had the game-clinching block. He’s likely one of the players that is expected to take a bigger role with Barton sidelined.

Second-year player Torrey Craig started in place of Barton against the Warriors, but it was Hernangomez that came up with the big play at the end of the game.

Denver is off to a 3-0 start with games against the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers on the horizon this week.
