NBA: Could Tracy McGrady averaged 35-40 points in today’s game?

Former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady believes he would average 35 points in today’s game; we have our reservations
On ESPN’s The Jump, NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady said he would easily average 35-40 points in today’s game.
To be fair, McGrady, also known as T-Mac, was one of the most dominate scorers of his era when players could hand-check. He was a seven time All NBA player who averaged 32.1 points a game during the 2002-03 season as he was able to score with ease until an injury slowed him down.
So I can understand why McGrady would believe he would average 35-40 a game with today’s touch foul calls and 3-point shooting.
The one thing McGrady and most 90’s players never factor is the speed of today’s NBA players. The 1990’s NBA was filled with slow players that Michael Jordan and Tracy McGrady could get around with ease. I mean Shawn Bradley, Manute Bol, John Stockton, John Paxson, Mark Price, Greg Ostertag, Will Perdue and too many slow centers to name.
Still, I can buy McGrady averaging 35 in a season. I just can’t buy him averaging 35-40 a game season after season even if he improved his three point shooting. Remember, future first ballot hall of famers LeBron James and Kevin Durant have never averaged over 32 points a game in a season. So to believe McGrady would easily average 35-40 points a game does not make sense.
Tracy McGrady believes his era of basketball was better than today’s game just like Jim Brown and Gale Sayers believe their era of football was the best. Almost all athletes believe their era was the best era; just like most of us believe our music generation was the best.
If McGrady played today he would be a great player and a future hall of famer. I would say 28-33 points a game sounds about right.
