2001 NBA Draft

Drafted:

2. Tyson Chandler, Dominguez H.S

In 2001, the Bulls shocked their fans by trading Elton Brand to the Clippers for the rights to Tyson Chandler who averaged 5-9 points a game in each of his five seasons with the Bulls.

4. Eddy Curry, Thornwood H.S

Eddy Curry was the hometown big-bodied star the Bulls thought would develop into the next Shaquille O’neal. The Bulls thought Curry and Chandler would improve enough to dominate the NBA like they dominated in high school, but that did not happen. Curry was a big disappointment in Chicago. His fourth and final season was his best season with the Bulls as he averaged 16.1 points and six rebounds a game.

30. Trenton Hassell, Austin Peay

He averaged 8.7 and 4.2 points a game in his two seasons with the Bulls. Even worse was the fact that the Bulls drafted him before Gilbert Arenas who averaged 18.3 points and 6.3 assists a game when Hassel averaged 4.2 points a game.

Passed up:

5. Jason Richardson, Duke

Jason Richardson could have made a good addition to the Bulls. The two-time Slam Dunk champion averaged 16-23 points a game seven of his first nine seasons.

10. Joe Johnson, Arkansas

Joe Johnson was a seven-time All-Star player. Enough said!

19. Zach Randolph, Michigan State

Zach Randolph was a player you could pencil in for 18 -23 points and eight rebounds a game in his prime.

28. Tony Parker, France

Tony Parker, the four-time NBA Champion, four-time All-NBA and Finals MVP, could have been the point guard the Bulls thought they were getting when they drafted Jay Williams from Duke in the 2002 NBA Draft.

31. Gilbert Arenas, Arizona

Gilbert Arenas was a three-time All-Star and scoring machine who averaged 18-29 points a game in seven of his first nine seasons with the Washington Wizards.
