Through the first month of the NBA season, there’s a case to be made for Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose to be one of the favorites to win the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award

All offseason, there were many questions regarding the NBA about various teams and topics, including the Minnesota Timberwolves and their chemistry. Despite that, players have stayed focused and played the game that they love – none better than Derrick Rose through the first dozen games of the season.

Currently averaging 18.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, Rose is making an early case for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. Will he be able to keep up his great production this season and win Sixth Man of the Year?

It’s an immense possibility.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

That was before the last few weeks when Derrick Rose began putting up numbers reminiscent of his MVP season and leaving crowds in awe. A few of his stat lines through the first few weeks of the season suggest that his old self is back, including his career-high 50 point game in his first start of the season.

Rose hasn’t seen a healthy season in a while, having not played more than 65 games since the 2010-21 season, when he became the youngest MVP in league history at only 22 years old.

As an explosive guard who has thrived on getting to the rim for the majority of his career, Rose is currently shooting 47 percent from 3-point range.

His previous career high? Thirty-four percent in 2014.

While his athleticism has taken a decline (much of it due to the knee surgeries), Derrick Rose has quietly turned into an exceptional shooter from behind the arc.

Whether it’s off the dribble or in a catch-and-shoot situation, he has thrived in connecting from behind the arc in his first 12 games this season. The recent acquisitions of Robert Covington and Dario Saric – two very good shooters who will draw attention from opposing defenders – can only help Rose become more confident.

Yes, it’s early, and sure I might be premature on this, but I’m going to go ahead and give Derrick Rose my vote for early-season Sixth Man of the Year.

Now, let’s sit back and enjoy greatness. Everyone, it’s finally basketball season again.
