The recent slump that the Golden State Warriors are on, with Stephen Curry absent from the lineup, is no coincidence

The Golden State Warriors, at least on offense, have looked nothing like themselves without Stephen Curry in the lineup over the last few games.

Curry has been out of the lineup for the last six games. Over that span, the Warriors are 2-4 and have lost their last three games, against the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks.

During those six games, the Warriors have the NBA’s 16th ranked offense. That’s not great for this team, considering that over the course of the first few weeks of the season, with Curry, they had the top ranked offense in the league.

In the last six games, they’re just not bad on offense though. They defense has taken quite a hit too. With Curry in the lineup, they were ranked 16th – not great, especially when it comes to this team’s previous standards, but not terrible. During the last six games, the Warriors rank 25th in the league of defense.

Safe to say, the team has really struggled over the last six games with Curry sidelined with an injury. In fairness, it should be noted that Draymond Green has also missed three of the team’s last four games.

And that’s probably one of the biggest reasons why we’ve seen their defense take a bit of a dip over the last six games. After all, he’s the epitome of defense for this team. The offense, though, that’s the Curry effect.

During the first 12 games of the season, it can’t be overstated how great Curry has been for the Warriors. Before the injury, Curry was averaging 30 points, six assists and five rebounds on a career-high 52 percent shooting from the field and an absurd 49 percent from 3-point range (on nearly 11 attempts per contest).

Those are outrageous numbers, even for Curry. And the team’s recent play just shows how important Curry is to this team. This is a former NBA MVP that is having a career year. That’s absurd.

The Golden State Warriors will likely bounce back when Curry returns, but this recent stretch without their lead guard should bring to light just how important of a role he plays for this team. It’s no coincidence that this team is struggling without Curry in the lineup.

It reinforces that despite the flashiness of Kevin Durant, the Warriors’ success lines up with the health of Stephen Curry.
