This trade also brings in to question what is the plan in Philadelphia around developing 2017 1st overall selection Markelle Fultz. The addition of Jimmy Butler could potential have the same effect on Markelle Fultz that troubled the Timberwolves’ development of Andrew Wiggins.
The hope that the Sixers are banking on is that Fultz development will come along slowly as Butler is able to help Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons win games to secure a favorable playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Sixers have not had a great track record developing high drafted talented in recent times, but there’s still the possibility Philly will trade Fultz to give him greater opportunities elsewhere with Butler now being in Philadelphia.
