Exploring whether the Brooklyn Nets should be buyers at the NBA’s Trade Deadline later this season
The Brooklyn Nets are no longer a laughing stock in the NBA. Thanks in large part to the job that Sean Marks and his management team, the Nets have managed to dig themselves out of the NBA’s cellar and are now one of the young, emerging destinations in the league.
The team has won seven games in a row, and are only 0.5 games out of the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference through the first 33 games of the season.
Considering where many thought this team would finish this season, that has to come at least as a bit of a surprise. Which leads to another question regarding this team heading towards the midway point of the season: Should the Nets be buyers at the trade deadline?

There are reports that suggest the Nets could be buyers at the deadline, but I’m not sure if that would be the greatest thing for this team moving forward. While it would give this team some real momentum heading into a big summer, in which they will be on the hunt for one of the big name free agents, perhaps adding a top 10 pick might be better for this team moving forward.
And before this recent tear, they were actually treading that way. However, this recent win streak has begun to change things for the team’s immediate outlook.
To think, if this team had a healthy Caris LeVert, they’d be in an even better position. And he could return late in the year – that’s another thing to keep in mind.
However, realistically, there are players on this team that could help contenders – and it would be tempting to want to cash in on some of those assets. Such as DeMarre Carroll, Kenneth Faried and Jared Dudley.
Question is, what will this team manage more this season – the chance to make it back to the NBA Playoffs, despite everything they’ve gone through over the last few seasons, or potentially adding a couple more lower level assets as they sell off their veterans to other playoff hopeful teams?
Even though it may seem like an easy decision, it almost never is. However, it has to be a breath of fresh air for the Brooklyn Nets to even have this decision to make, no matter how hard it may be.
