After officially signing Patrick McCaw, from the Warriors, we explore whether he could be another piece of the puzzle as the team continues the rebuild
Entering the 2018-19 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors expected for Patrick McCaw to be part of the team’s rotation. Due to his contract situation, however, that wasn’t the case. Now, after signing an offer sheet that was not matched by Golden State, Pat McCaw is officially a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
McCaw is coming off a season in which he only averaged four points on 40 percent shooting from the field, but has flashed more than a handful of times throughout his first two seasons as a member of the Warriors.
He has shown that he has the ability to be a good, productive player in the NBA. However, he simply hasn’t been given the consistent opportunity to do so – and how could he on the loaded Warriors roster?

Now with the Cavaliers, it’s going to be interesting to see what type of role McCaw can play. This is a team that is in need of some young talent, and that’s exactly what McCaw is. He’s the type of talent that they could groom next to Collin Sexton, the team’s 2018 first-round pick.
At 6-foot-7, McCaw is an interesting prospect that can likely play the 2 or 3, and will likely fit into today’s new position-less basketball mold.
McCaw signed a two-year, $6 million offer sheet with the Cavaliers that was not matched by the Warriors. McCaw was a late-second round pick during the 2016 NBA Draft and played his collegiate ball at UNLV. He started a combined 30 games during his first two seasons in the NBA, and has appeared in a total of 128 games.
He missed a good portion of last season due to a back injury that he suffered just before the start of the playoffs. McCaw is only 23 years old and still has his best basketball still in front of him. Considering everything that has happened to the Cleveland Cavaliers over the last few months, this is one of their better moves.
