NBA Trade Rumors: The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly in the market searching for a big man that can stretch the defense
After acquiring Jimmy Butler a couple months ago, one thing was clear for the Philadelphia 76ers. And that was that they were all-in on pushing for a Eastern Conference title, at the very least, this season.
Since trading for Butler, the Sixers are 19-9. That’s good enough for the second-best record in the NBA in that span. However, the team is still only 4th in the East standings with the Boston Celtics, who have been quite impressive since Thanksgiving, right on their tail.
Still, it’s clear that this team is going to need some reinforcements if they plan on making a deep run in the playoffs. And one area where they could use some added depth is along the frontline.

According to a report from Sporting News, the Sixers are shopping for a big man that could stretch the floor. Potential something similar to what the team lost in Dario Saric when they moved him in a package for Butler.
"The Sixers are another team willing to part with this year’s pick for immediate shooting help, as Philly looks for a big man who can shoot, along the lines of Mike Scott, Frank Kaminsky or Noah Vonleh."
The fact that the team is willing to give up a first-round picks should tell you just how serious this team is about competing this season. They went all-in on the Butler trade, and need to capitalize on that move this year.
Especially considering that there’s no knowing what Butler will do in the summer when he’s an unrestricted free agent. The team certainly hopes to re-sign Butler, but nothing is certain, especially considering what we’ve begun to hear out of both camps as of late.
Whether you believe the reports of a rift between Butler and Brett Brown or not, those types of musings can’t hep but make any Sixers fan nervous about brining him back on a long-term, high money deal during the summer.
That’s probably another reason why Philly might have even more incentive on making a move ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline. Question is, will they find that versatile big man that they’re searching for?
